Ghost - Impera

Ghost – Impera Review

Both on ears and paper is undeniable Impera is an enormous record, probably Ghost’s best to date. Well executed, well produced and incredibly catchy to the point most tracks can stick for days. To accomplish that Tobias Forge has managed to take bits of Metallica, Def Leppard or Van Halen, added ABBA, and then written the ultimate stadium poppy hard-rock record.

This applies to both writting and production. And this is probably its only flaw: There’s no much room for harder tunes such as in Meliora (2015) and previous records. The metal hints are there, and the imagery, but the theatricality and poppyness is way more prominent leaving out most of the evil-dark feeling. Its almost the same formula as in Prequelle (2018) but now every song is perfectly written. No complains here, but with almost two LPs of arena anthems, let’s hope the next papa comes up with something harder yet still fresh.
